Introduction

Challenges may feel insurmountable, but Amberley Snyder’s journey embodies resilience and hope. From her childhood love of horses to world champion barrel racing, Amberley’s life took a dramatic turn after a paralyzing accident. Through connection and determination, she reclaimed her dreams and inspires others to do the same.

The Early Days

Amberley’s passion for horses took root at age three, soon blossoming into competitive barrel racing by seven. Her dedication paid off with a world title in high school, cementing horses as the foundation of her identity and joy.

A Life-Altering Moment

While traveling to a stock show in Denver, Amberley suffered a spinal cord injury that left her paralyzed. Supported by family, faith, and her beloved horses, Amberley refused to let hardship define her future. She became the only paralyzed professional barrel racer in the country—an achievement fueled by those unwavering connections.

The Role of Connections

Connection is at the heart of Amberley’s resilience. She credits three pillars:

  • Family: Her support system lifted her in moments of doubt and difficulty.

  • Faith: Spiritual beliefs provided purpose and peace through uncertainty.

  • Horses: Horses embody happiness and the driving force behind Amberley’s comeback and unique success.

She emphasizes the importance of “watering relationships” – maintaining strong, healthy bonds requires effort and gratitude. Amberley urges us to identify and thank those in our corner, as true strength is born from mutual support.

Choosing Positivity in Darkness

Everyone faces the “dark places” of life. Amberley encourages finding a spark of positivity—whether through eating a favorite snack, enjoying music, or setting a small goal. These moments of joy, however brief, build lasting resilience and inspire those around us.

Inspiring Others

Amberley’s impact transcends her personal achievements. She inspires children with disabilities by showing that “if you can do this in a chair, so can I.” Her speaking engagements and the Netflix film “Walk. Ride. Rodeo.” continue to uplift audiences and demonstrate that genuine effort and connection can spark transformation.

Mechanical Innovation and Longevity

Determined to compete, Amberley adapted her racing routine with specialized equipment like a car seat belt on her saddle. She carefully balances ambition with health, modifying routines to preserve her body’s longevity over years of intense competition.

One Thing You Can Do Today

Inspired by Amberley’s advice and expert recommendations for living well after adversity, act on this one thing today: Reach out and express sincere gratitude to someone in your support circle—and take a small action that benefits your health.

For example, start a daily habit that supports physical and mental well-being: go for a walk or wheel outside, perform gentle stretching, or prepare a healthy meal. Regular exercise and conscious self-care are vital to building resilience and improving quality of life, especially after major challenges.

Conclusion

Amberley Snyder’s journey reminds us of the essential power of connection, resilience, and gratitude. By strengthening our relationships and taking one step toward better health, we can transform adversity into hope and triumph. Today, take a moment to thank someone who has supported you—then do something positive for your mind or body.

I really enjoyed this episode. Amberley is really inspiring. I have always loved riding horses and have a friend that I rode with and used to horse sit for when she was away from their ranch. She suffered an accident; the horse she was riding got spooked while the friend was also leading a colt on the ride. The horse went down, trapping the friend beneath it and the colt ran off. Now, these were expensive horses... but the friend had her pelvis crushed. She was acres away from the ranch and had to crawl through a wooded area until she reached the field below her house before anyone found her. The colt, unfortunately, ran through a barbed wire fence…
