I’m excited to share with you a deep and inspiring conversation I had recently with Rich Hart, a health and wellness expert with over 25 years of experience as the owner of Elevate Fitness and Rehab and co-founder of Insulin IQ. Many of you might know Rich from the time he supported me during my rehab after my accident and helped me as my trainer gearing up for handcycle racing. His passion for helping people transform their metabolic health through personal connection and hard work truly impressed me.
From BYU to Building Elevate Fitness & Rehab
Rich’s journey started with a degree in exercise and sport science from BYU. Despite loving the sports medicine field, he had an entrepreneurial spirit that pushed him to open Elevate Fitness & Rehab after years in postoperative spinal rehab. Elevate quickly grew into a comprehensive wellness center offering everything from chiropractic and physical therapy to metabolic health and specialized pelvic floor therapy. I was blown away hearing how Rich integrated such a spectrum of care for all kinds of people—from triathletes to everyday moms and dads looking to improve their health.
The Power of “Why” in Fitness and Health
Rich emphasized a lesson I found so true in my own experience: understanding the “why” behind our health goals is the key to success. He shared stories of clients who initially struggled but found motivation when they connected health changes to their family or purpose in life. One story particularly stuck with me—a professor at UVU battling serious metabolic illness who was motivated to get healthy not just for himself, but for his wife and kids. This profound emotional connection helped him lose over 100 pounds and improve his health beyond weight loss, enhancing relationships and quality of life.
Challenging Conventional Wisdom with Insulin IQ
We talked extensively about Rich’s work with Insulin IQ, a movement focused on metabolic health by managing insulin rather than just calories. His story of embracing a low-carb, high-fat diet for endurance running challenged everything I thought I knew about nutrition and performance. Rich’s personal experience and his work with clients showed that it’s possible to reverse Type 2 diabetes, reduce inflammation, and dramatically improve health without medication—something I initially thought was crazy but now see as revolutionary.
Real Talk About Health Struggles and Recovery
Our conversation wasn’t just about success stories, but also acknowledging the real challenges we all face. Rich reminded me—and I hope it inspires you too—that health journeys are full of ups and downs, and that having grace with yourself while holding yourself accountable is essential. I reflected on my own recovery from a severe injury to being able to walk with a cane again thanks to hard work, motivation, and great support like Rich’s.
The Importance of Connection in Healing
One of the clearest themes from our talk was how critical connection is—not just in fitness and rehab but in all aspects of health and life. Whether it’s connecting to what truly motivates you, finding supportive trainers, or nurturing relationships with family, connection creates a foundation for lasting change and resilience.
Final Thoughts
This conversation with Rich was a powerful reminder that health isn’t just about diets or exercise routines—it’s about purpose, connection, and commitment. I’m grateful to share these valuable lessons and encourage you to find your “why,” embrace connection, and trust the hard work pays off. For anyone looking to explore new ways to approach metabolic health or recovery, Rich’s perspective and the Insulin IQ approach are well worth exploring.
Thank you for joining me in this journey toward health and connection. Stay inspired and connected.
